ESAA Cross Country Schools Cup 2017 Round 1

The first round of the English Schools Athletics Association Cross Country Cup was held on the Laverstock Campus Laverstock. A fast early start to the course over playing fields followed by a demanding uphill and then steep decent created an interesting race for all the teams competing.

Encouraged by the performance of the Junior Team the Inter Girls knew what they had to do. They got out hard and settled into their running on the longer first lap. Susannah Hirst was up with the front runners and finished in 4th place out of 40 + runners, a good grouping behind her of Fenella Challinor 9th, Daisy James 10th, Rose Strutt 11th and Indie Boyd 12th with Ellie Bourne 18th gave St Mary’s a really good chance of a strong team position although we knew it would be tight between ourselves Parkstone Grammar School and Sherborne. We were therefore delighted to find we had finished 2nd overall just behind PGS and ahead of Sherborne.

Finishing in the top two means that the team have now qualified to compete in the Regional Round of the Cross Country Cup which will be held on Saturday 11th November at Leweston.
